eXtremeRate Announces New Steam Deck Shell With Interchangeable Buttons

One of the things I love about PC gaming is being able to customize and fine-tune my experience to a tee, so I am glad that still rings true for the Steam Deck. Not only is it still a PC, and we can customize our gaming and desktop experience, but we can also customize the actual shell and look of our device. This can come in the form of skins, which we lay over our Deck's outer shell, or we can swap out the shell entirely. One of the two main providers for shells to swap out is eXtremeRate, and they are coming out with a new product that looks like it will be another great way to change how we use our Decks in general.

Changing out the shell of the Deck does mean taking it apart, so it isn't recommended to do this unless you are very careful and take your time, or have done this before. This also mentions that soldering will be required, so knowledge of this will be important.

The new product is a back shell for the Steam Deck LCD and OLED in multiple colors, but it comes with one new feature: Interchangeable Back Buttons. The shell comes with a unique internal design that allows you to change out the back buttons without having to dismantle the Deck. The shell comes with two types of back buttons that have different heights and finger grip designs. This allows you to mix and match which designs and grip style you want.

Right now, there are five options to pre-order from the website:

• Solid Black
• Solid White
• Transparent Clear
• Transparent Black
• Transparent Purple

The two solid colors are $31.99 each, while the three transparent options are $29.99. However, you can use our coupon code to reduce the price by 10% to $28.80 and $27.00 respectively. The buttons also match the back shell's color, so there are black, white, and purple back buttons.

It's a really interesting idea, and I am all for modular, interchangeable designs. I would love to see eXtremeRate expand on this and sell new back buttons with different colors, designs, and heights to give us more options. Each shell already comes with the buttons, shell, and tools needed to take off the shell of the Deck and put it on, including a screwdriver and prying tool.

The eXtremeRate Interchangeable Back Buttons Bottom Shell is available for pre-order on their website. There is a free shipping option, but it could take a while.
