I am so glad Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero exists. I was dying to see the Budokai Tenkaichi series make a return, and now that it has, I couldn't be happier. The frantic, action-packed 3D combat is exactly how I remember it, with some wonderful updates to the visuals, effects, and gameplay with some nice controller updates and quality-of-life enhancements. I adored it in my review, and I would take almost any excuse to pop back over to it and play some more. Well, that excuse has arrived with Sparking Zero's first DLC, which started releasing yesterday, and a brand new mode to try out.
Currently, there are three planned DLCs for Sparking Zero, the first of which brings us 11 characters from Dragon Ball Super Hero the Movie. This includes special versions of Gohan (including Gohan Beast), Piccolo (including Orange Piccolo), Gamma 1 and 2, and Cell Max. On top of the new characters, there is also a new costume, new custom battle stages, and more. Currently, the DLC is only available to those with the Season Pass, but it will be available to everyone on January 24th.
I tested out the DLC on my Steam Deck because I was so excited, and it's awesome playing as the new characters. Being able to set up new fights, including Gohan Beast versus Ultra Instinct Goku, was just so much fun. The roster of characters growing is never something I am opposed to, and these ones are fine new additions.

On top of the DLC, we also got a free balance update for everyone, which included the new game mode: Legendary Warrior Face-Off. This is a limited-time mode that will go away in the future, and it has you fighting against an ultra-powerful enemy to try to defeat them. The rest of the update adjusts different aspects of the game, including more content for Custom Battles, you can change the difficulty when using a Dragon Orb in Episode Battle, it is easier to hit Smash Ki Blasts when firing while moving, and more.
You can check out the full changelog for the free update from Bandai Namco's website.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is available on Steam for $69.99, and the DLC will be available separately on January 24th. If you want it now, as well as the rest of the DLC with early access, you can pick up the Deluxe Edition for $99.99 or get the Season Pass for $34.99.
