Ever since its initial announcement, Anbernic has been slowly revealing details about the upcoming RG Rotate. Over the past few weeks, we’ve gotten a clearer look at the device and a better sense of how it may perform.
In a more detailed video following the original teaser, Anbernic confirmed that the device will feature a 3.5-inch 720 x 720 display. While it is smaller than the screen found on the Anbernic RG Cube, it uses the same resolution, which should result in a noticeably sharper image due to the higher pixel density.
RG Rotate Specs
- Display: 3.5” IPS 1:1 720 x 720
- Chipset: Unisoc Tiger T618 octa-core CPU
- Memory (RAM): 3GB
- Storage: 32GB
- Operating System: Android 12
- Battery: 2000mAh
- Connectivity: WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0
Beyond the display, the company has also confirmed pricing and several key specifications, giving a fuller picture of what to expect. The RG Rotate will be powered by the Unisoc T618, paired with 3GB of RAM, and will run Android. While the T618 has appeared in a number of previous handhelds, it is now an older chip by Anbernic’s standards. Devices like the RG505 and RG405 series used the same processor, so performance should closely match those systems.
Emulation Expectations
The square 720 x 720 display opens up some interesting use cases. It aligns well with Game Boy and Game Boy Color, whose aspect ratio sits close to 10:9, and also works nicely for SNES when using its native 8:7 aspect ratio rather than the more common 4:3 output. In those scenarios, the panel can present games with minimal scaling compromises.

According to Retro Dodo, the device will go on preorder on May 11, at $87.99 for the polar black variant, and $107.99 for the aluminum option.
The RG Rotate also stands out for its hinge design. Folding and rotating mechanisms have been hit or miss across the handheld space, with some earlier devices from companies like Miyoo and Retroid running into durability concerns. However, Anbernic’s recent releases such as the RG35XX SP and RG34XX SP suggest the company has gained some experience in this area, which may inspire a bit more confidence here.
