It is getting tougher and tougher to play the newest AAA games on the Steam Deck. They are becoming more demanding, and with the Deck already having some slightly dated hardware, it is getting tough to run some of them. To combat this, some awesome members of the Steam Deck community have created mods aimed at helping find ways to optimize or add features like FSR upscaling to a game that doesn't have it, but there has always been a process to do this. However, a new plugin is on the way, which seems to make this much easier.
Over on the Steam Deck subreddit, user supershredderdan posted about a Decky Loader plugin he is working on that will make it easier to install a mod that can add FSR 3 and Frame Generation to any game that doesn't support it. This will be great for any game that supports DLSS but doesn't actually support FSR. Since we can't use DLSS on the Steam Deck, FSR is our next best bet, and it should allow us to improve the visual quality of some games without sacrificing framerate.

This should be a great way to improve the performance and battery life of some games that don't support FSR. However, there are some caveats when using Frame Generation. Frame Generation is a technology that duplicates frames and can make a game running at 30 FPS feel like 60. When it works, it's fantastic, but it needs a constant 30 FPS, or the framerate can drop, causing more stutters and input lag.
It seems that this won't work with games that already have FSR implemented, and while there are other mods that can replace FSR 2 with FSR 3, like LukeFZ's mod, there's no indication that this one replicates it. However, installing the mod this way is much easier, and all you have to do is press a button to add the mod to the game and then type in a specific launch option. Hopefully, there's a way to automatically put in the launch option or copy it when the plugin is launched because it is long.
There's no word on when the plugin will launch, but it should hopefully make installing this kind of mod to improve performance or visual quality much easier.

Hey everyone, I'm the plugin dev. If you want to give it a test run I have a beta release here that you can install via the dev menu in decky loader. Just download then select the zip file to install. I also added the option to apply the launch options to the app that is currently running, then on next game launch the mod should automatically apply.

Staying to wonder if sites are adding mistakes like "or add features like FSR upscaling to a game that d, but" to try and prove they aren't just AI sloppy something. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some weird SEO strategy to it.
We do NOT use any AI in our work, with the closest being Grammarly to look over articles and correct grammar errors and misspellings. Unfortunately, this was a full on mistake on my part. I meant to say "that doesn't have it," but it didn't type it all out and I didn't catch it. My apologies!
FYI frame generation does not make 30fps feel like 60fps, not even close. Do not write articles about things you know nothing about.
I would say it does because it artificially inflates the framerate by generating frames. It's not a true 60 FPS.
The problem is that it needs enough frames to work with. It's recommended that the game fps be a minimum of 60 fps pre-interpolation. And under 30 fos should be absolutely avoided.
