GOG, one of the main distribution platforms for PC games and perhaps the most important platform for game preservation, has all but confirmed that it will be expanding its GOG GALAXY launcher to support the Linux platform in the future.
A job listing on the website notes that they are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, with responsibilities that include: "Build and maintain GOG GALAXY on Linux, while collaborating on cross-platform solutions (Windows / macOS)".

GOG games already work fine on the Steam Deck by installing them via third-party launchers like Lutris or the Heroic Games Launcher, but nothing beats having the original launcher working natively on your system, with all the niceties, such as achievements and playtime tracking.
This development will push Linux one step closer to software parity with Windows when it comes to gaming, and is great news for the Steam Deck and the upcoming Steam Machine, which will also benefit from this.

While I really enjoy what GOG is doing and i purchased their CD Project games directly at their store, if possible I usually bought my games via Steam because of the better Linux Support for years already.
As a Linux gamer for many many years now it was always easier to get your games run on Linux after installed from steam (even pre proton times).
Since my love for Linux is stronger than my love for GOG I am now really happy to read this. Especially if I think that ever PC gamer should play their games on the personal favorite system. So great to see and I will surely check it out when its done
