MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta Won't Work On Steam Deck

This year has been huge for fighting games, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Earlier, we had Invincible Vs., and most recently, Avatar Legends came out swinging on the scene. It was so good that we gave it a 10/10 rating, and it could be one of the biggest fighting games if it plays its cards right. However, there are some other fighting games that are still on the horizon, and one of those is the upcoming Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Not only does it look like an incredible fighting game with Marvel characters, but it’s developed by one of the best fighting game developers out there: Arc System Works.

Today, an open beta for Marvel Tōkon went live, giving us a chance to try the game out for ourselves. And of course, I wanted to try it out on the Steam Deck to see if it’s something that we could play and enjoy on the go. However, any hope I had was almost immediately squashed. As soon as I launched the open beta, there was a network error, saying that “No anti-cheat module can be found for this game and platform”, which then forced me to close the game.

I tried everything I could think of to see if there was some way to fix it. I tried multiple different Proton versions, and even went into the game files to try manually installing Easy Anti-Cheat via its Setup file. However, nothing worked, and I was left unable to play the game on the Deck.

While this could be a specific issue for the beta, it does worry me for the full release. It’s possible that the anti-cheat will block access on Linux/SteamOS, which will make it impossible to play on the Steam Deck. I have hope that the full release will not have these issues, and that everything will be fixed up for the launch. I have reached out to PlayStation for clarification and will report back when I’ve heard an update.
