While not as glamorous as PlayStation's other releases, Lost Soul Aside was still an exciting game to see. It gives off a Devil May Cry vibe, and while it isn't perfect, it has charm and is still enjoyable to play in short bursts. To top things off, a new update was released for the game that includes some new content, improvements, and optimizations, as well as Steam Deck support, which ultimately got it the Verified badge!

Lost Soul Aside

Yesterday, the game officially got the Verified badge, giving it that green checkmark. This means Valve says the game supports the default controller configuration, shows correct icons, text is legible, and the default graphics are good. All of this stems from a new patch, which brought with it Steam Deck support.

In the patch notes, the developer team notes that we should now have a seamless adventure on the go and have full support for the device. There are no specific mentions of what exactly has changed for it, just that we have full support, so of course, we had to test and see for ourselves if it really is improved.

And to my surprise, it has. Before this patch, the game would regularly drop below 30 FPS, with some areas going as low as 20. However, this is no longer the case. Now, I am finding it hard to drop below 30, with more fights going over 60 FPS. Still, there are some heavy areas where the framerate would drop, so I would recommend 30 FPS lock for a fully stable experience. Ultimately, it's still very playable though, and significantly better than it was when it first launched.

And if you are trying to push to 60 FPS, I would expect needing as much power as possible. Cutting it to 30 will help for the most part and bring it down, but there will still be some spots where the framerate drops because of how demanding it can be.

Now, would it be better if it stuck to 60 FPS all the time? Absolutely. But this is a significant improvement over how it was before. It's actually pretty amazing to see. The visuals look great, apart from some textures and lighting on character models, but it is ultimately very great to look at. Admittedly, I am surprised they were able to pull a 180 on Lost Soul Arise, but I gotta give credit where credit is due, and I am happy to do it. Still, it's enough to make the game Verified, and that's awesome.
