The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are still some of my favorite first-person shooters, and for good reason. They are haunting, moody, brilliant simulators that I fell in love with. The newest game in the series, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, may not be great to play on the Deck, but the original trilogy is, and they are about to get a whole lot better thanks to enhanced editions that are releasing on May 20th!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Legends of the Zone Trilogy on Steam Deck

The original three games, Shadow of Chornobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Prypiat, are all getting overhauls with tons of new visuals, optimizations, and support to bring them up to modern times. The trilogy, being dubbed the Legends of the Zone, is going to be getting many improvements to bring it up to modern consoles. These improvements include enhanced lighting and screen space reflections, upscaled textures and models, advanced water shaders, upgraded skyboxes, and 4K pre-rendered cinematics with improved weapon FOV.

As for those playing on PC, which includes Steam Deck, we will have full optimized support for the Deck, cloud saves, full controller compatibility, and Steam Workshop integration so we can easily utilize mods. This should make playing on the Deck, or really any PC, so much better.

And if you already own the trilogy, don't worry! Owners of each of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games on Steam will get their enhanced editions for free, so you don't have to pay any extra. On top of that, if you buy the enhanced editions, you will also receive the original versions for free.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Trilogy can be purchased bundled together for $39.99 right now or $19.99 separately in preparation for the Enhanced Editions. You can wait until the enhanced versions have been released if preferred, but you will get them for free on May 20th if you own the originals already.
