A new update for Proton Experimental was released with more fixes and making new games playable. Dune: Awakening got two patches for incorrect warnings, Tales of Berseria crashing, and Red Dead Redemption 2 hanging. Arken Age and Ninja Reflex: Steamworks Edition should both be playable now, and Wine Mono has been upgraded.
The new Proton Experimental update should automatically download if you already have the experimental layer. If not, just search for Proton Experimental in the Steam store on your Steam Deck and download.
Proton Experimental 9/10/25 Update Changelog:
- Now playable: Arken Age, Ninja Reflex: Steamworks Edition.
- Fixed Proton Experimental regressions:
- Red Dead Redemption 2 should no longer hang on a black screen on certain setups
- Fixed Tales Of Berseria crashing with certain paths used for the location of the Steam Library.
- Fixed Dune: Awakening wrongly displaying warning about hard drive below minimum requirements.
- Fixed Dune: Awakening displaying warning about graphics drivers with AMD GPUs.
- Fixed license agreement screen not working in Terminull Brigade.
- Updated Wine Mono to 10.2.0.
- Fixed Proton 10 regressions:
- Alien: Rogue Incursion VR is playable again.
- Quake IV and DOOM 3 should no longer have issues with mouse input in full screen mode.
