Ubisoft is gradually revealing more information about Assassin's Creed Shadows before its launch on March 20th, and today they've revealed that actor Mackenyu, perhaps best known for his work in the 2023 Netflix adaptation of One Piece, will be playing the role of Gennojo in Assassin's Creed Shadows, in what will be his first video game role.

You can find out more in the trailer below:

Gennojo will be a friendly character in the game, whom players can recruit to join the Shinobi League to help them in their fight against the corrupt forces that represent the antagonists of the game.

Mackenyu will be providing voice acting for both the English and Japanese voiceovers of Gennojo in the game.

Here's what he had to say about portraying a character in the Assassin's Creed franchise:

“I have fond memories of the franchise. I was in middle school when Assassin’s Creed first came out, and I remember my friends and I would gather at a friend’s house and take turns playing the game,” Mackenyu said. “When I heard that the new Assassin’s Creed game would be set in Japan, I knew that I needed to be part of this project.”

Assassin's Creed Shadows will launch on Steam on March 20th. You can pre-order or wishlist the game now. The system requirements are pretty high for the Steam Deck, but we'll see how it runs when the time comes.
