When Hori announced that they were developing a controller specifically for Steam, I was elated. Yeah, it doesn't have trackpads or Rumble, but it does have Steam Input support, specific buttons for the quick access menu in Big Picture Mode, and full Steam Deck support. It's hard not to be excited, but if you live outside of Japan, getting one for yourself may be a bit harder and more expensive.

It appears that Hori is only going to be releasing this controller in Japan for the time being, meaning anyone outside of there will have to import it, which could cost more. This was confirmed to us by our friend Keith Mitchell, who is the editor-in-chief of an awesome gaming website called The Outerhaven. He shared with us an email chain with HoriUSA inquiring about the controller, and it confirms that there are no plans to sell the controller in the US:

Unfortunately, based on this interaction, it does sound like we won't have the pleasure of being able to easily get the Hori Steam Controller in the US. I wouldn't be surprised if this includes other countries, making the controller exclusive to Japan, but we don't have 100% confirmation. It is a bit of a shame, since I believe the controller would be well-received and desired by enough people worldwide, but ultimately, time will tell if it becomes available.

The controller is currently slated to be around $50 and will release on October 31st.
