Frostpunk 2 was one of my favorite games of 2024, and this brutal political city builder keeps improving over time. The new 1.4 update dropped this week, bringing a ton of improvements, including full controller support at last.

As part of Frostpunk 2’s console release, full controller support is now in the game, which also benefits the Steam Deck. This also comes with a new UI suited specifically for gamepads that should improve the experience considerably on handhelds, where Frostpunk 2 was previously rough on the Steam Deck.

Other changes include some new balance tweaks, a smoother prologue that should be less punishing to new players, and bug fixes. Overall, it’s a solid update, and we will be testing Frostpunk 2 again to see how the Steam Deck experience has improved.

Frostpunk 2 is 35% off for $29.24 until September 29. It's rated Playable due to needing a community controller configuration, small in-game text, needing to manually bring up the virtual keyboard, and showing incorrect controller icons.
