2 days ago, AYANEO unveiled their next device in the AIR series during a livestream, promptly titled the AYANEO AIR 1S. This new device, which is coming to IndieGogo soon, looks to be extremely powerful and full of great features, including an AMOLED screen for gorgeous color accuracy! There was a lot revealed for it though, so let's dive in to what was shown off for the next device to come from AYANEO:

Size and Weight

The newest device is part of the AIR series of devices, which implies it will be on the smaller side. Based on what was revealed, this is quite accurate. Using a structural stacking design, the AIR 1S is smaller than the Steam Deck, Ally, and even the Nintendo Switch, making it much easier to carry around and just slip into your pocket.

The device is also only 450g, so it will be lighter than the Deck (669g) and the Ally (608g) while still retaining the power and form factor. I am still playing around with my AYANEO AIR Plus, but if the form factor is close to the Plus, it will be extremely comfy to hold and easy to carry around.

CPU / GPU

Next, AYANEO goes over the CPU and GPU that will be in the AIR 1S. Going with the newest flagship AMD processor, the 7840U. This 4nm processor is based on the Zen 4 architecture and features 8 cores, 16 threads, and 5.1Ghz max frequency. Comparing the devices, the Steam Deck uses a Zen 2 architecture and has a 2.4 - 3.5Ghz frequency, while the ROG Ally sports similar CPU power with its Z1 Extreme chip.

The AIR 1S will also have a dedicated GPU, the 780m, which features a 12 Compute Units in the RDNA3 architecture with a maximum frequency of 2.7Ghz. The Steam Deck offers 8 Compute Units in the RDNA2 architecture with around 1.0 - 1.6Ghz frequency, while the Ally is similar in specs here as well.

While there is no word on RAM just yet, there has been a lot of testing on the 7840U, which sees a 20% increase over the last generation of processors (6800U), as well as much better optimization and heat dispersion, so the chip runs cooler and is much more energy efficient.

The "AYANEO 2S" bar is using the same processor as the AIR 1S, so the bar includes the new device's performance.

Battery, Power Draw, and Temps

With all this extra power, a good battery is needed to supply. The AIR 1S will have a 38Wh battery, which is a little less than the 40Wh that the Steam Deck and Ally have, but due to the smaller size and optimized processor, the differences are said to be negligible.

To help maximize battery, the TDP limit when not connected to power is 20W, but can be increased to 25W when plugged into an outlet and charging. On top of that, AYANEO conducted tests for the power draw being used at different intervals between 5W and 25W at different fan speeds, which does show a great temperature range:

Screen

To top it all off, the AIR 1S will be sporting a 1920x1080 AMOLED screen, which means the color accuracy and vibrancy will be incredible, especially when compared to both the Steam Deck and ROG Ally. The screen itself will be on the smaller side at 5.5 inches, but the entire device is aimed to be smaller in general. Regardless, it will still be exceptionally gorgeous to look at!

Controls, Inputs, and Speakers

In terms of the controls, the AIR 1S will be featuring hall-effect joysticks and triggers. This utilizes tech that eliminates deadzone, drift, has a long shelf life, and is very accurate. The gamepad also sports the Master Multifunctional Gamepad, which has been fine-tuned to help make sure controlling the device is easy. It will also launch with AYASpace 2, the next version of the Windows game management software. This version will come with an updated visual aesthetic, as well as some improvements and the inclusion of a "Performance Scenario" mode, and a X-axis linear motor for vibration feedback.

As for inputs, the device will have 2 USB-C ports, one on the top and one on the bottom, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack, a Micro SD card reader, and a space to expand hard drive space with a M.2 2280.

There are also custom speakers on the device to allow for a better experience when no headphones are plugged in. The dual-channel chamber combined with AYANEO's amplifier technology will combine to provide a great quality with sound.

There is no price point announced yet, but the AYANEO AIR 1S will debut on IndieGogo mid-July. So far, this is stacking up to be a great competitor to the Steam Deck and ROG Ally. The performance looks to be on par with the Ally, but is much more portable and has a better screen. I am curious how the price could be, but I am looking forward to finding out later this month!
