Ever since its announcement, Anbernic's RG DS has been a hot topic. It looks perfectly geared for DS emulation, and with its announcement price of under $100, it looks like a great option for those wanting a DS experience. And now, we can get it locked in as pre-orders have just gone live!

Anbernic RG DS store page

Pre-orders for the RG DS have just gone live on Anbernic's website, showing the different versions of the handheld and pricing. There are three color options: black and red, blue, and white, along with options that come with a 128GB or 256GB SD card. All colors are the same price, with only fluctuations if you want an SD card:

  • No SD Card = $99.99
  • With 128GB SD Card = $114.99
  • With 256GB SD Card = $129.99

The RG DS was showcased as a sub-$100 handheld, and I guess it technically is at $99.99, but it's cutting too close. There is a deal going on right now to save $6, which would put the version with no SD card at $93.99, which is helpful. This also trranslates to the other versions of the handheld as well, with the 128GB SD card at $108.99 and the 256GB SD Card at $123.99. However, with shipping not covered, and possible taxes in the UK and Europe, the handheld will start going a little above that $100 limit they set.

This listing also confirms the leaked specs from the early AliExpress page, with the RockChip RK3568 chip, 3GB RAM, and 4-inch screens at 640x480 resolution. It will be possible to emulate DS, PS1, and earlier consoles with ease, though it may start to show warning signs at 3DS and more demanding consoles like the GameCube and PS2. It does have some interesting features, like the quick screen switch button, and it comes with a stylus, but it may fall short of power to use as an all-rounder device like the AYN Thor.

Still, it's nice to see it finally here, and I am looking forward to checking it out for myself!

The Anbernic RG DS can be pre-ordered on the Anbernic website, and will start shipping Dec ember 15th.
