Great strides have been made over the past few years with regard to software compatibility on Linux. But by and large, this focus has been on gaming, and Linux can miss out on some key pieces of productivity software that Windows enjoys, such as the Adobe suite of programs.

That may not be the case for much longer, as work has been progressing on a fix for the Adobe Creative Cloud installer when run via WINE.

PhialsBasement has been working on the fix, and apparently, their work has enabled them to get the Creative Cloud installer working to completion, tested with Photoshop 2021 and 2025, arguably the most popular Adobe software out there.

While the fix hasn't yet made its way into Proton or WINE itself, PhialsBasement is in the process of submitting it for review by other coders related to the project on GitHub, so hopefully, future versions of the compatibility layers will open up Adobe's suite of software, such as Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator. Still, this is a step forward that can open up more software to be usable on the Steam Deck, and that's something to celebrate.

It may not be long before you have another reason to dock your Steam Deck and hook up a keyboard and mouse, and for those of you stuck on Windows because of needing to use this software, it may be easier to make a switch to Linux in the future.
