The Steam Controller has been extremely successful since it launched on May 4th. It sold out within one hour of its launch, which is incredible, but it did show a lot of issues with their system for purchasing. A lot of people weren't able to get one, while scalpers were able to swarm in and get them to resell at insane prices. Valve recognizes this, and now, they will be making some big changes to make sure others will be able to get them, and I couldn't be happier.

Starting tomorrow at 10am PT, a reservation queue will be started for those who want a controller. Valve will be going down that list in order from when the reservations are made, and emails will be sent. Once you get an email, you will have 72 hours to make the purchase, and if you don't, it will move to the next person.
It's a great way to stop the rush of purchases, like what happened on Monday, but the other changes they are making are going to be even better. For now, reservations will be limited to one controller per user, and for now, those who have already purchased a Steam Controller will not be able to reserve another one. On top of that, your account must have a good standing on Steam, and you must have made a purchase on Steam before April 27th of this year.
Now, replenishment of inventory will vary for each region, but Valve did mention that they will start fulfilling reservations next week for US and Canada regions, which UK, EU, and AU coming in the following weeks. Nonetheless, this is a great change and one very welcome to see.
