As a huge fan of Grand Theft Auto 5, I was saddened when I heard that Rockstar added BattlEye Anti-Cheat and decided not to make the online multiplayer compatible with Steam Deck/Linux. I love playing with my friends online, and playing on the Steam Deck was cool, but unfortunately, that's not possible right now. We did report about a user who got a response from Rockstar saying that they won't support Linux and made it sound like this decision is set in stone. However, we may be wrong.

GTA Online

In a new Reddit post by user notjordansime, there may be some hope on the horizon. Before the game's rating was changed to Unsupported, the user messaged Steam support and asked them about the recent change to the game and why it still had a "Playable" rating. After the support ticket was created, they received a response from Steam Support that apologized for the issues that are being experienced, mentioned a discount going on, and, surprisingly, noted that they are working with Rockstar to find a fix:

If this is accurate, it could mean that GTA Online functionality will be restored and playable on the Steam Deck again, and I am really hoping this is true. There is no timeline on when this will be fixed, so it's up to Valve and Rockstar to figure things out, and I am hopeful they will, especially with how GTA 5 was shown on the Steam Deck before.

Grand Theft Auto 5 can be purchased now for $20.40, and while the online portion, Grand Theft Auto Online, isn't working on Steam Deck right now, the single-player can be played!
