Most new devices almost always come with a charger for them, which has led me to have an influx of cables. I don't mind it since it means I will always have extra if necessary, but it does take up an entire drawer in my closet. The Steam Deck is one of the new devices that usually comes with its own charger or PSU (Power Supply Unit). However, it appears that if you live in the EU, you can get a new Steam Deck without a charger, if desired.
Noticed by NKkrisz on the Steam Deck subreddit, this new option appears below the Buy Now button and delivery date text when you go to buy a Steam Deck. It allows you to purchase it without a PSU or charger. I decided to test this myself using a VPN and can confirm that EU countries do have this option. Other countries outside the EU like the US, UK, and Japan do not have an option like this.
In a comment, NKkrisz states that it could be because of the EU's Common Charger Directive, which states that all new devices sold in the EU must now support USB-C charging, which will reduce the number of chargers people would need and helps to minizie electronic waste. I can see this being a move to help reduce e-waste, but with the Deck already supporting USB-C charging, it doesn't sound like any move was necessary.
It appears the only benefit of choosing this option is for people that have too many cables and reducing e-waste. There is no price discount for choosing to forgo a PSU, which I would have expected a small cut, but it's still nice to have an option in the end.

For people thinking of ordering without the charger: don't. We have numerous usb-c chargers in the house, but the only ones that reliably charge the deck are the one that came with it and another one that came with a chromebook. Basically you need a high wattage charger. This is a cheap way to get one.
