With Starfield's release, it has become more apparent how ugly the gaming community can get. Console wars have taken center stage, people calling each other names, and demeaning an ambitious game that, instead of being open to critiques and other viewpoints, people push their feelings without regard for others. In a sea of games more focused on combat and saving the world, I think it's time for a heartwarming game that brings a smile to your face. Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story seems to be that game.
Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story is the next game to tell the backstory of another League of Legends hero. With each of these backstory games, Riot Forge focuses on creating a new, unique experience, and this one is no different. Song of Nunu is a 3D platformer that will have you sliding on the ice, using magic and your flute to overcome puzzles, and fending off enemies in a gorgeously crafted world. You will also be able to meet other champions like Braum, Ornn, Volibear, and Lissandra on your travels.
Unlike other 3D platformers, the focus of Song of Nunu is less on the combat and more on the bond between the two titular characters. Nunu, who is searching for his mother, will travel through the frozen land of the Freljord with his best friend, Willump. Through the journey, you will work together to progress, save each other from danger, and use that endless imagination to stick together through thick and thin.
I was lucky enough to play Song of Nunu at Gamescom and enjoyed what I played. I love the focus on the relationship of the two protagonists and keeping it more light compared to many other games that have been released lately. There's even a hug button you can press at any time to hug each other, no matter the situation. It's such a nice change of pace, especially with a lot of the negativity around now. This is a game I will be waiting and watching for with excitement.
Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story is available to wishlist on Steam and is slated for release this year. While there aren't any specifications publicly available, I am optimistic that it will run well on the Steam Deck.
