Sabotage Studio's award-winning turn-based role-playing game, Sea of Stars, is getting a fresh new chapter. Throes of the Watchmaker, a free downloadable content (DLC) set to launch in the spring of 2025, will add a new playable character, an exciting plot twist, and more to the game.

Revealed during Nintendo's Indie World presentation today, Throes of the Watchmaker will take players on a new adventure featuring Valere and Zale, the dual protagonists of Sea of Stars. In this downloadable content, you'll revisit the mysterious Watchmaker, a character you met in the main game. Horloge is a complex clockwork realm that players will explore in this expansion. The heroes will face new challenges as they adapt to the rules and strategies imposed by the cursed carnival.

A reimagined fighting style for Valere, who will now perform as an acrobat, and a trade for Zale, who will now be a juggler, are two of the major gameplay changes introduced by the update. A new mechanized sharpshooter equipped with a laser, Artificer, will also be playable. New areas to discover, puzzles to solve, tunes to enjoy, and foes to vanquish will all be part of the downloadable content.

Composer Eric W. Brown, who was the lead composer for Sea of Stars, will be releasing a new score for the expansion alongside additional original works by Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda.

The forthcoming local co-op update will be fully compatible with Throes of the Watchmaker. This update introduces a new Co-op Timed Hits mechanic that enables three players to join forces in the main adventure. In the upcoming downloadable content, players will be able to take part in cooperative gameplay using this multiplayer mode.

Sea of Stars, which launched last summer to widespread acclaim and received the Best Independent Game award at The Game Awards, has engaged over 5 million players. Have a look at the game on PC right now, or you can add it to your Steam Wishlist to be kept informed of future updates.
