Retroid today announced a new performance refresh to their Retroid Pocket 5 (RP5) and a sequel that features some worthwhile upgrades.
On the company’s Discord, they have shared the first preview trailer of the two devices showcasing a new refresh to their Retroid Pocket line, titled the Pocket G2. Visually, it appears the same as the RP5, but featuring a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 in place of the former’s SnapDragon 865. The increase in processing power should result in the device being twice as performant when compared to its predecessor.

During the second half of the preview trailer, the company shared the specs and pricing for their newest flagship handheld, the Retroid Pocket 6. The device also shares a similar footprint to the Retroid Pocket 5, but houses a 120hz screen where the original RP5 only reached 60hz.

Outside of that, the device appears to be largely the same, outside of a massive processor upgrade to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in other current handhelds like the AYN Thor.
The company does share its parent company, Moorechip, with AYN. AYN had recently shown a preview of their upcoming Odin 3, which is slated to have a slightly larger 6-inch screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite, but still a 120Hz OLED screen.
The upcoming Pocket G2 is said to feature the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 netting performance that is double that of the Retroid Pocket 5. The Retroid Pocket 6 with its expectant Snapdragon 8 Gen2 should be around twice as performant as the G2.
Retroid has had a product-heavy 2025 thus far. They ended 2024 with the Retroid Pocket 5 and followed its release with the Retroid Pocket Mini, Flip 2, Classic, and a revamp of the Mini, the Mini V2. In addition, they’ve also released a pivotal dual-screen attachment, the Retroid Dual Screen Add-on, to address a newly formed dual-screen meta in retro handhelds.
The black, international SNES, and GameCube colorway options of the Retroid Pocket G2 will start shipping on October 29. But the teal and yellow colored devices will begin shipping November 5. The device will retail for $219, but for the first two weeks, it will be available for $199.

The Retroid Pocket 6 has no release date announced just yet, but comes in new and revitalized colors, some Retroid hasn’t used since the Retroid Pocket 2. Color options include black, international SNES, teal, silver, white, and fan-favorite yellow with black accents and buttons.
The 8GB RAM with 128GB of storage variant of the Retroid Pocket 6 will retail for $229, and the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage will retail for $279. However, during the preorder period, the Retroid Pocket 6 will be available for $209 and $259 respectively.
The Retroid Pocket 6 and Retroid Pocket G2 are both available for pre-order right now, so head over to Retroid's website to get your handheld.
