Update 7/26: It was confirmed that the game will not use the EA App, which is fantastic. There are still no confirmed minimum specs, so there's no telling how well it will run, but it's a step in the right direction!
Even if I don't fully trust the Steam Deck Verified system, I still get some joy when I see the green checkmark appear on games. It's like a stamp of approval to play on the Deck, and even if it isn't always accurate, it's still awesome. However, this is a weird one, and it makes me curious why this was given the badge so early before any release date was announced or any confirmed minimum specs were established.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the newest upcoming entry in the Dragon Age series, got its Steam Deck Verified badge earlier today, and I was a bit shocked to see it. Not only does the game have no confirmed release date, other than it coming out this year, but it also has no minimum or recommended specs listed! On the Steam Store page, it just has a "TBD" for everything, which means To Be Determined. I searched online and didn't find anything concrete about what specs it is asking for.
Don't get me wrong, I am very happy to see it and would love the game to run well on the Deck. It looks like an awesome game that could be extremely fun on the go, but without any confirmed minimum specs, I have my worries. If the specs are too high, this could be a misleading green checkmark, and while EA has been relaxing requirements for its third-party launcher for some single-player games (like Dead Space Remake), it's possible it could make an appearance in the end.
There are a lot of unknowns, so I do feel like this Verified badge was given a bit too early, but I still hope that it will run well!
Dragon Age: The Veilguard can be wishlisted on Steam ahead of its release later this year.
