When the DOOM + DOOM 2 enhanced versions came out last year, I was blown away. Nightdive Studios came out swinging with this surprise release that made the original DOOM releases significantly more playable on modern hardware, including the Steam Deck. It deserves that verified badge, and it's just a joy to play on the go. However, the newest update caused some issues here and there when trying to play on Deck, but luckily, they were fixed!

The 2nd update for the game was a big one, and it added mod support for multiplayer. This came with some general improvements, spectator mode, optimized networking code, and more. It's a great update; however, the release broke compatibility with the Steam Deck. As a temporary workaround, there was a beta version of the game added that rolled the update back so players on the Deck could keep playing. However, it seems like a hotfix has been deployed to make sure Steam Deck players are able to play without needing to change a thing. Just make sure your game is fully updated.

The update was released just two days ago, so I am really overjoyed that the team was able to get a workaround and fix it so quickly. It runs exceptionally well on the Deck, too, and if you are looking for a solid first-person shooter and don't mind the retro-aesthetics, this is one of the best to play.

DOOM + DOOM 2 can be purchased on Steam for $9.99, though if you act quickly, it is on sale for $3.99 on Steam for the next 5 hours.
