Ever since the Steam Deck was released, Decky Loader has become an essential tool to have downloaded. It allows you to use plugins to enhance your Deck experience, with amazing tools like SteamGridDB to easily get custom artwork and even see which games have which ProtonDB ratings, and so much more. But it seems that there is an issue that is plaguing the framework, and it led to a plugin getting delisted.

If you haven't yet, you can learn how to get plugins up and running on your Steam Deck by following our guide!

The newest version of Decky Loader is on its way out, and in anticipation, you can test it out via the pre-release branch. Unfortunately, some plugins seem to be making the Steam's Big Picture Mode boot in a loop, rendering it useless. An announcement was posted to the Steam Deck Homebrew server by admin and homebrew developer Train regarding the issue, the Music Control plugin being a culprit, and that it was delisted:

Train mentions that there could be other plugins causing this same issue and that you need to delete any affected plugins from the /homebrew/plugins folder. Over in the Loader Support channel, a user was taking it upon themselves to catalog which plugins have these issues, and they found which plugins that break the pre-release, which ones work, and which ones don't break the pre-release but need an update to work:

(The list is still being filled in, and the contents may change).

The following plugins break Decky Loader 3.x.x pre-release (unbootable):

  • DeckRoulette 1.1.3-0950f29
  • GameView Music 1.1.0-1
  • MicroSDeck 0.9.1-1
  • MusicControl 1.1.5
  • Network Info 1.0.1-13b914b
  • Remote Play Whatever 1.0.0
  • System Toolbox 1.0.2-1

The following plugins DO NOT break Decky Loader 3.x.x pre-release:

  • EmuDecky 1.0.7
  • MetaDeck 2.0.2-4a7335d
  • MusicControl 1.1.6-a93c611
  • Save Manager 0.0.1-0ef2a15
  • Syncthing 0.2.1-389a842

The following plugins DO NOT break Decky Loader 3.x.x pre-release, but don't work anymore, while they were working fine on 2.12.3:

  • Controller Tools 1.2.2

If you are on the stable release, you shouldn't have any issues, but a plugin being removed completely due to how it affects an upcoming release of the Decky Loader framework is a pretty big deal. Hopefully, these plugins will get updated so they don't cause any more issues, but only time will tell if they do.
