Before you criticize that headline, it's basically what the press release sent to us said, ok?
If you are a fan of Cat Quest III like I was when I reviewed it last year, you'll be excited to hear that a new update for the game has just arrived. This new update brings back the 'Mew Game' mode. This is essentially the "New Game+" mode that other games have.
You can check out the trailer for the new Cat Quest III update below:
So what changes can you expect from a 'Mew Game' playthrough of Cat Quest III? The update comes with a series of modifiers that you can enable, here's the rundown:
You can increase the toughness of your enemies. You aren't allowed to use weapons or armor, just trinkets. You are locked to using only spells, although your mana now regenerates quicker. You won't be able to level up. The game runs at twice the speed it previously did, meaning you'll need cat-like reflexes to stay alive. You won't be able to upgrade anything in the game.
If those modifiers aren't brutal enough, there are a couple more, such as your ship only doing 1 damage, so you can't cheese battles by staying in your ship and bombarding enemies on the shore. Finally, and perhaps most brutal of all, is the 9 lives modifier, which gives you 9 lives to beat the game in, if you run out of lives, your save file will be deleted.
Sounds pretty brutal, huh? Well, the Mew Game update is out now as a free update for all players, so you can go ahead and try it for yourself if you think you have what it takes!

Cat Quest III is available now on Steam for $19.99. The Mew Game update is free for all players who own the game. I reviewed the game last year and found that it was a bunch of fun and runs great on the Steam Deck.
