4X games are some of my favorite types of games, and Galactic Civilizations have always been of interest to me. I love the idea of an enjoyable strategy game that spans across galaxies. Galactic Civilizations 4 is the newest entry in the series, released in October of last year, and while it says it's Unsupported on the Steam Deck, it can still be played quite well. And now, it will be a bit easier, thanks to yesterday's update!

In the new 2.3 update, titled War & Peace, we now have official support for 1280x720 resolution! While this may seem small, the lowest resolution possible with Galactic Civilizations 4 before was 1920x1080, which would put unnecessary strain on the Deck as it only has a native 800p screen. Thanks to this update, we can now bring the resolution down and push better performance! This also comes with a smaller UI scale to go with the lower resolution, but I am not sure if it will be too low on the Deck.

On top of that, this update brings in War Events, Diplomatic Relation events, an option to spectate human vs human battles in multiplayer, and better AI overall. There was also a plethora of different fixes across the board. From AlienGPT improvements to some difficulty changes, there were plenty of improvements across the board!

You can view the entire list of changes in the Steam Discussion post.

Galactic Civilizations 4 is available on Steam for $49.99. And while it does have an Unsupported rating, it is playable on the Steam Deck.
