Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Proton Experimental

A new Proton Experimental update was released last week that brings in some new improvements and new playable games. We can now play Metal Gear Survive and Warhammer: Vermintide 2 without issue, and Xalia was updated so we now have controller support for a C++ redistributable installer and launchers for Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2, and Disney Bolt. We also have fixed DLSS support for the upcoming Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.

The new Proton Experimental update should automatically download if you already have the experimental layer. If not, just search for Proton Experimental in the Steam store on your Steam Deck and download.

Proton Experimental 2/27/26 Update Changelog:

  • Now playable: METAL GEAR SURVIVE, Warhammer: Vermintide 2.
  • Updated Xalia to 0.4.8:
    • Added controller support for the MC Visual C++ 2010 redistributable installer.
    • Improved gamepad binding support for Graze Counter.
    • Added controller support for launchers of the following games: Red Faction®: Armageddon™, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 - Episode II, Hellsinker., Disney Bolt, STAR WARS™ Starfighter™.
  • Fixed Xalia intermittently failing to start when game is launched.
  • Fixed small memory leak with The King of Fighters XIII Global Match video playback.
  • Improved timezone detection.
  • Fixed video playback in 我打不过漂亮的她们.
  • Fixed experimental-10 Regressions:
    • Fixed DLSS support in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.
