There are so many exciting games on the horizon and on their way out. It is even more exciting now knowing these games can, hopefully, all be played portably on Steam Deck! While some games have announced early support and some haven't, there is a lot of tinkering that can be done and the team at SDHQ is ready to take on the challenges. Here are some upcoming games to watch out for and whether they have commented on supporting the Deck:
Stray (7/19)
Stray is a very unique game and one that has risen to the stop of the most wishlisted Steam game list in the past couple days. Published by Annapurna Interactive, you play as a stray cat lost in a dystopian cyberpunk city. Your goal is to find your way home and solve some mysteries of this unwelcome world.
On July 7th, Annapurna confirmed that Stray is Steam Deck Verified. With the tweet used to confirm it, they updated their Steam page to show this as well. This game will definitely be one to watch though. It has gained a lot of attention recently, so hopefully its performance on Deck can let me be a cat wherever I am!
Loopmancer (7/13)
Loopmancer is a 3D platformer-roguelike with stunning graphics and a swanky art style. You take the role of Xiang Zixu, a private eye brought back to life to investigate the disappearance of a famous female journalist. Play across 7 fine-tuned stages with over 100 weapons and use prosthetic limb skills to defeat enemy in a beautiful bloodbath. Areas of the map will also change at random after each death, so choose your paths wisely.
While Loopmancer is not verified through Steam, they did release a demo through the Steam NEXT Fest which ran well on Deck. While gameplay seen was around the unstable 45-50 mark, some tweaks could easily make this 60 FPS playable. All in all, replayable games are a perfect fit for a portable device that you can pick up and play whenever, and this one looks to be added to that list.
Rune factory 5 (7/13)
Looking for a game to satisfy your cravings for action RPG combat, farming, and marriage? Well you might not have to look any further! As the newest ranger for a peacekeeping organization, you are tasked to protect the frontier town of Rigbarth. With friends you make in town, you will go out and adventure to pacify the rowdy monsters affecting the town. And when you aren't out fighting, take those tamed monsters and grow some crops on your farm, compete in cooking contests, and get hitched! What more could you ask for??
Rune Factory 5 hasn't been listed as verified for Deck, but there have been some early reviews up showing the game does indeed work! Cutscenes seem to be broken though, so using Proton Experimental or Proton GE will fix this. Overall, with some tweaking, it seems a good stable 45 FPS and 60 FPS build can be achieved with the right settings and resolution upscaling!
As Dusk Falls (7/19)
Ready to explore a new uncompromising interactive crime drama? I know I am! Explore the lives of two families, linked to one another after one night in 1998. You will shadow them over the next 30 years, creating the paths they will walk on with vastly different outcomes for each character with hidden nuances behind each decision. With a multiplayer mode that allows 8 people to contribute to the decision made for each character, this game will take you on a deep and rewarding journey. Online multiplayer requires all players to own their own copy, but the game does have local multiplayer too.
No announcement or Deck compatibility has been shown, but seeing as this game is not intensive at all, I would say it is safe to assume it will be compatible with the Steam Deck. SDHQ will verify this on 7/19 when the game is released.
Hazel Sky (7/20)
Are you ready to take the ultimate trials that could dictate the rest of your life? As a young lad, you are sent to an island far from home to hopefully pass your quest and come back as an official engineer for your home city of Gideon. Fail, and you are banished from your city. Armed with a radio, you and a fellow trainee, Erin, must work together to overcome what comes next. Use your engineering skills to repair and build machines, platform through the land, and discover what might be hidden across this mysterious island in this Third-Person exploration game.
Hazel Skies has been officially Steam Deck Verified, which means it is ready for play on Deck! Seeing how it looks, and its system requirements being low, there's no doubt this will run well. With a couple tweaks, this looks to be an easy 60 FPS build in the making.
