Publisher Atari made a big announcement today. In a deal with Infogrames (one of their publishing subsidiaries) and Tinybuild, Atari acquired the Surgeon Simulator Franchise.

I always enjoyed the Surgeon Simulator games myself. A slapstick operation simulator that puts players into the hands (and surgical tools) of a doctor, they are usually a good laugh. After the 2013 release on PC, we had a 8 year wait until the sequel Surgeon Simulator 2 launched on Steam. With the ability to play solo or co-op, they are both entertaining to play. There is even a VR version of both games, and they are perfectly playable on your Steam Deck.

Surgeon Simulator Infogames aquisition

The developer Bossa Studios has several humorous titles under their wing, and this acquisition by Infogrames is a great opportunity for them. They will be seeking to expand the franchise with expanded distribution, develop new titles, and explore merch opportunities. Infrogames manager Geoffroy Châteauvieux had this to say about the deal:

“More than 10 years after the release of the original, Surgeon Simulator remains a popular and unique franchise. This was a rare opportunity to acquire a game with a timeless appeal, and we are excited to have Surgeon Simulator within the Infogrames portfolio.”

Surgeon Simulator 1 and 2 can be bought on Steam for $10.74/$21.17 respectively, but given the Steam Summer Sale is nearly upon us, I would expect steep discounts.
