Hollow Knight still reigns supreme when it comes to Metroidvanias, and I still find myself coming back to play it from time to time. It’s such a fantastic game that still holds up today, with its atmospheric world and refined mechanics. Playing it on the Steam Deck has always been quite easy as well, but a new update just released to make it a little bit better.

Hollow Knight

Yesterday, Hollow Knight got a new update that included support for 16:10 resolutions. While this isn’t anything directly for the Steam Deck, the Deck’s native resolution for its screen is 1280x800, which uses a 16:10 aspect ratio. Before this update, playing on the Deck would have some black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. However, with this update, the black bars should no longer be there, and we can fully utilize the entirety of the screen. It’s small in the grand scheme, but always appreciated.

There were also some nice other changes with the update though. The game will now properly pause when in the inventory screen, map panning is now smoother, and a new dithering effect was added that reduced color banding. There was also an upgrade for controller support with some fixes for a softlock, Salubra's Blessing now deactivates after reaching max Soul, and Sly's Great Slash collider is now closer to match the visual.

You can check out the full changelog for the update via their Steam Community Post.
