First Dwarf is one of the weirdest games I’ve played in years. While it has plenty of rough edges, I enjoy the mech combat and base-building parts of the game. Steam Deck performance and optimization have been a big focus for the game in the past year, and Update 34 continues that progress.

The developers are clearly pushing to give First Dwarf the Verified badge on the Deck, and this new patch builds on last year’s patches with improved controller and pad support, default controller supporting all in-game actions, automatically bringing up the virtual keyboard when necessary, and larger text. Other improvements include a slew of bug fixes, added voice-overs to some quests, and improved optimization for areas with heavy lighting.

First Dwarf is 25$ on Steam right now, but goes on sale fairly often. The current Playable status has issues with the base controls and keyboard layout, but this update should be the final hurdle in getting the game Verified!
