NOTE: These are just impressions and not a full on review. Our review will come after playing through the entire game, so consider this more as an evaluation of the first area/s in game.

A key was provided by 1010 Games for review.

Funko Fusion has always been a weird game to me ever since I saw it. It looked like an interesting third-person shooter that takes you to different worlds and plays through reimaginings of different shows. Now, the game has been released, and it is definitely on the weirder side after playing for a bit. It is a weird game, and it feels especially odd playing as different characters in their stories. In a way, it feels like the LEGO games. Regardless, I wanted to test this out on the Steam Deck and see what performance was like, and while I think it is playable, it may not be the greatest.

Before booting up the game, I did encounter a C++ error that stopped me from playing the game. To fix this, I had to use Proton GE 9-13, which worked perfectly. If you haven't yet, you can use our guide on how to get it running.

In the small prologue and the first Scott Pilgrim level I played, I experienced a mix of framerate going up and down. It defaulted my settings to the lowest possible, and while it is more playable, the game looks significantly less detailed, especially further away. I do think the game can handle a higher quality, and from what I played so far, it is possible, but it comes at a cost. For the most stability, you will need 30 FPS, but if you do, it will make the game look much better.

So far, I am playing with Everything on the lowest (Minimum) setting except:

  • Global Illumination - Medium
  • Shadows - Low
  • Effects - Low
  • Reflections - Low
  • Post Processing - Low

This makes the game look significantly better, and by keeping TSR (Temporal Super Resolution) to 50%, the game still looks decently sharp and quite pretty:

It may have some drops later on in more open areas, so you may have to dial the settings back a bit, but I would still consider the game playable. Reflections and Global Illumination are the two most important settings to making the game look great, so keeping those while lowering the others should still look pretty good. You can also lower TSR a bit more to see if that helps. But overall, this is still a playable game to some degree.

Funko Fusion is available now on Steam for $49.99.
