For Honor is Dropping Linux/Steam Deck Support on September 10th

For Honor is joining the list of games that will no longer work on Linux due to adopting a new Anti-Cheat system from September 10th.

Currently, the game uses Easy Anti-Cheat, which does support Linux, but it appears that they may be moving to a different system from September 10th to line up with a major update to the game's ranked multiplayer options, and in doing so, are removing support for Linux, likely meaning they are introducing a kernel-level anti-cheat.

There is a glimmer of hope in that they do say they hope to add support for For Honor back to Linux and the Steam Deck in the future as they work on their anti-cheat solution; however, with the game approaching 10 years old, I'd be surprised if Ubisoft really put a great deal of effort into restoring the game for Linux, given how the total players on Linux are likely just in the hundreds at best.

Competitive titles often block Linux, such as Fortnite and Apex Legends, because the operating system is more open and that openness enables potential workarounds to circumvent game security.
