The same day AYN announced price increases across its entire Odin 3 and Thor lineup, Retroid confirmed both a price increase and the discontinuation of select Retroid Pocket 6 (RP6) models.

The Retroid Pocket 6 is available in two RAM configurations, 8GB and 12GB, both powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Today, Retroid shared that the 12GB version will be discontinued, and the 8GB model will see a 15 dollar price increase beginning March 2. However, current orders will honor the original pricing and will be unaffected.

The price increase brings the 8GB variant of the Retroid Pocket 6 to $245, and although the 12GB remains available through Retroid's official site, there is no guarantee orders placed after this announcement will be fulfilled. Current orders will honor original pricing and will not be affected by the discontinuation of the 12GB RP6.

Retroid Pocket 6 12GB Discontinued

Retroid remains one of the first companies to introduce custom d-pad configurations on a flagship handheld. Buyers can choose between a top-mounted d-pad or a top-mounted analog stick on the left side of the device. The layout appeals to different play styles. A top d-pad is often preferred for retro consoles and d-pad-focused gameplay, while an analog stick on top better suits players who lean toward more modern titles.

The increasingly difficult RAM shortage continues to impact hardware companies across the industry. AYN initially indicated that a price adjustment was coming, then followed up to clarify that the increase would arrive sooner than expected. While the Thor is entering more mainstream territory, it also stands out for offering one of the widest configuration ranges on the market, spanning from a Snapdragon 865 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage to a Max configuration featuring a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Retroid Pocket 6

Retroid, a major contender in the race for the retro handheld crown, has now shown that it is not immune to the continued strain on RAM and storage supply, pressures that have been intensified by growing AI-driven demand. As the company works to navigate these challenges and maintain its device roadmap, we will continue to monitor and report on any further developments.
