Super Mario Bros 40th Anniversary

With September 13th marking an impressive 40 years since Mario first graced our screens in Japan, Nintendo is going all out on the celebrations. From gaming-adjacent news, such as the big N supporting the Kyoto Marathon, with the Nintendo logo being prominent on the front of next year's bib, to the next Mario movie, namely "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie", now having a release window of April 2026, it's clear the celebratory plans are coming thick and fast. Also, man, the Mario Galaxy leit-motif gets me every. Single. Time. Just, wow.

Super Mario Galaxy Movie Teased - Releasing April 2026
Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Announced for Switch

Speaking of Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2, both will be released for the Nintendo Switch family of consoles come February 10th, with Galaxy-appropriate Amiibos - Mario and Luma, Rosalina and Luma - coming 6 days prior, February 4th. It will be available as either a bundle or a separate purchase digitally.

Mario Tennis Fever Announced - Launching February 12th on Switch 2

Mario Tennis Fever, meanwhile, is the latest addition to the Mario Tennis series, the last of which (the superb Mario Tennis Aces) was released in 2018. Fever Rackets are this iteration's special something, with each providing various abilities, such as spawning poison mushrooms to make your opponent smaller, creating slippery ice patches on your opponent's half of the court, and so forth. Mario Tennis Fever launches February 12th, and is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Gets Paid DLC Next Spring

Mario Wonder is also seeing some love, with the inevitable Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (called it), as well as a "+ Meetup in Bellabel Park" add-on. What seems like a Mario Party-lite addition, a portion of the additive content focuses on multiplayer fun, whether it be teaming up with friends and family or working against them.

Examples given were "Tip-Tap's Coin Spree", a race to see who can collect the most coins, and "Run, Hide! Phanto Tag", a hide-and-seek-themed romp. Story-focused content is also present, with the titular Bellabel Flowers being teased as an objective, ala the Wonder Seeds in the base game. Due for release in Spring 2026. Also due the same Spring period is a physical Talking Flower, for reasons unknown. Please don't ask me why. I didn't make it. Kinda still want it, though…

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Announced for Spring 2026 on Switch 2

A new Yoshi game, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, is also due to release in Spring 2026. Featuring a talking book, known as Mr E (see what they did there), you're tasked with jumping inside of him and uncovering the many discoveries that lie dormant.

Quick-fire Nintendo Switch Games

  • Storm Lancers is a 2D side-scrolling roguelike with anime-inspired elements. It's out now.
  • Dinkum, a survival sim with a highly stylised, Australian-themed environment, launches November 6th as a timed console exclusive. Preorders and a demo are available now. The game is already out on PC.
  • Popucom is a multiplayer-only, match-3 styled game. With each adventurer only being able to swap between two colours, you must work with your friends, family, and strangers alike to fulfil your various bubble-popping tasks. Due to launch this Winter. The game is already out on PC.
  • Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has finally been dated, or at least given a release window, being Spring 2026.

Quick-fire Nintendo Switch 2 Games

  • Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection contains multiple classic games, spanning across arcade, console, and handheld versions. Includes an interactive documentary. Due to be released digitally on October 30th, with a physical release on December 12th. Available on the Nintendo Switch family of consoles. This one is also coming to PC on October 30th.
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launches January 22nd. Preorders are live now. The game is already out on PC.
  • Lynked: Banner of the Spark is an action roguelike whereby you collect resources (fishing, harvesting, and the like), customise weapon classes, craft, and fight to your heart's content. Online co-op and GameShare are included, as are Switch 2 mouse controls. It's out now for the Nintendo Switch family of consoles. The game is already out on PC.
  • Hades 2 has finally been dated! Zeus knows I've been looking forward to this. It launches September 25th digitally and November 20th physically. Launches on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with a free upgrade for the former, enhancing it for the more powerful console (such as 120fps when docked). The game is out in Early Access on PC.
  • New Amiibo figures for Kirby's Air Riders have been announced, being Kirby & Warp Star and Bandana Waddle Dee & Winged Star. When used in Kirby's Air Riders, these act as "figure players" that level up, both themselves and their vehicle proficiencies, as they compete. What's more, the physical Amiibo can have their riders swapped. The Amiibo are due to release on November 20th, the same day as Kirby Air Riders is released. Another Nintendo Direct is also due for Kirby's Air Riders, too.
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment still looks fantastic, and what's even better is that there is now a playable Korok. That's all I've ever wanted, and assuredly now the Game of the Year, right? We've peaked. It can't get better than that. Oh, wait, you can perform Sync Strikes with your allies, which can either deal damage or have various other effects depending on the combination? Okay, that's cool too. Both online and split-screen co-op are included, as well as GameShare. It launches on November 6th, with preorders available later today.
  • And who saw this coming? Dragon Quest VII Reimagined launches on February 5th, featuring a character that amusingly resembles Shrek's Lord Farquad. I don't know what else to say about it, but it looks beautiful and chibi-esque. The game is also launching on PC.

Virtual Boy Coming to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack - February 17th

The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will, as of February 17th, include the Virtual Boy! In other "no one asked for this" news, Nintendo is releasing an accessory that both the Switch and Switch 2 can be inserted into. Fourteen games will be added over time. You can also buy a cheaper "Cardboard" version of the accessory for a fraction of the price.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE Announced

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE is coming out early 2026, and looks as dramatically scary and creepy as you could imagine.

PowerWash Simulator 2 Trailer Shown

Powerwash Simulator 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2! Featuring multiplayer campaign progress for the first time, whether 4-player online or 2-player local, Autumn 2025 will see many people cleaning to… relax? A weird concept, I know, but I, for one, can't wait.

Suika Game Planet Announced - Coming Winter 2025

Suika Game Planet, a game in which you drop fruit to merge and upgrade(?), is coming this Winter and is GameShare-enabled.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Gets a December 4th Release Date

Hey, look, Samus now has a Tron-like bike! Where's Jared Leto? Wait, Nintendo had the sense not to include him? Fair. Anyway, we finally have a date! Christmas comes early for many, with the highly anticipated new entry arriving on our consoles on December 4th. New Amiibos are also coming, with Samus and Samus & Vo-O-La (the bike) available on November 6th, and Sylux on December 4th.

Donkey Kong Bananza Gets Paid DLC - Out Now

I didn't see this coming, especially so soon after the critically-acclaimed base game launched. The "DK Island & Emerald Rush" DLC launches today, featuring the ever-popular DK Island. In this DLC, Void Kong offers you a position with the Void Company, provided you've completed the base campaign. Your mission? Collect as much shiny green ore as possible within a time limit. You can collect fossils to gain perks to assist each run, and with both new cosmetics and statues to display, it's certainly worth exploring.

DITTO! In this latest cuboid cosy life-sim, you play as a human-presenting Ditto, who can learn moves from your fellow Pocket Monsters to help you harvest, build, and so forth. Pokémon Pokopia launches in 2026, and it looks like it's one to look out for.

  • Little Nightmares III has been dated for October 10th. Also coming to PC.
  • Persona 3 Reload is coming to the Nintendo Switch on October 23rd. Already out on PC.

Resident Evil Requiem Announced for Switch 2, Alongside RE: VII and Village Gold Editions!

definitely didn't see this coming. Not only will Resident Evil Requiem be coming to the Nintendo Switch on February 27th, but both the Gold Editions of Resident Evil VII and Resident Evil Village will be available on the very same day. Plenty of scary, horror goodness for people to sink their Resi-loving teeth into.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Announced - Launching in 2026

Inevitable as it is welcome, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave acted as Nintendo's grand finale, and what a finale it was. With tactical anime goodness aplenty, we learn that this game seems to focus on the so-called "Heroic Games", a rich cast of characters, and… is that Byleth? Answers on a postcard, people. I want and need to know more. Due to launch in 2026, hopefully, we don't have to wait much longer to learn more.

And that's it! What was your favourite announcement, all things considered? Let us know!
