Borderless Gaming is a pretty nifty app that’s been on Steam for a while now, allowing players to seamlessly play titles in borderless full-screen mode, even for older titles that lack that option. Previously, it was difficult to get working on the Steam Deck, but that has changed thanks to this week’s update.

Patch 1.4 has full compatibility on the Steam Deck now, and it is a new app written from scratch for SteamOS rather than just a port. It is built as if it is part of the Deck’s interface for Game Mode, which is pretty cool. It features full gamepad support, overlay support during gameplay to tweak settings on the go, and audio feedback, and is very easy to use. Despite the patch, players have been reporting boot issues with the app on both the Steam Deck and on PC, so it might be worth waiting for a couple of hotfixes before diving in. Provided these are fixed, it is still a significant change for the Steam Deck.
Our editor, Noah Kupetsky, also bought the app and tried it on the Deck. Navigation works like a charm, and the UI is fantastic, but none of the filters he tried actually worked. Even when launching from Borderless, none of the effects were implemented, and the Deck would sometimes start game recording for whatever reason. So, while this is a welcome update, it may not be ready for prime time just yet on Deck.

Borderless Gaming is $7.99 on Steam.
