Towerborne Won't be Playable on the Steam Deck at Launch, but Support is Planned for the "Near Future"

Having just come off the back of the disappointing news that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown isn't working on the Steam Deck right now, I was pretty sad to find out that Towerborne doesn't boot on the Steam Deck either. However, it's not all bad news.

Although the game doesn't boot currently, I reached out to the team at Stoic and was assured that the game did work on the Steam Deck before, but a recent update had caused a regression in Steam Deck compatibility, causing it to crash upon boot.

They said that the Steam Deck is still on their radar and that they would be working on Steam Deck compatibility as soon as it is feasibly possible and hope it will be ready in the "near future." So it sounds like this isn't related to some kernel-level anti-cheat, a problem that often can't be overcome, unlike in Test Drive Unlimited.

So I think we have reason to be positive that the game will come to our beloved Steam Deck in the future, perhaps more so than Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, given that Towerborne had been run on Steam Decks before the update that broke compatibility.

However, Towerborne does work on the ROG Ally, which is capable of a 60 FPS experience with the right settings, so once this crash is fixed, I think Towerborne will be a good experience on the Deck. It does work on other Windows handhelds as well, so if you have one, you should be set!

Towerborne launches on Steam on September 10th, if it looks like your jam, you can wishlist it now, or pre-purchase the Silver and Gold editions for some in-game cosmetics.
