Team Fortress 2 (TF2) is a name I don't hear super often, but when I do, memories flood back into my mind. The days of playing through the Halloween events with my friends and getting new cosmetics while I mastered Heavy's minigun (takes a lot of skill, I know) was a blast. While it wasn't perfect, playing on the Steam Deck was enjoyable, but after the newest update, it seems we have a couple of issues trying to play right now.

The newest update for Team Fortress 2 added 64-bit support for the Windows and Linux client and server, which should help performance across both OS. I would have celebrated this, and I did for a little, but as soon as I opened the game up on my Steam Deck, I was hit by an error that stopped me from joining any games.

Getting into TF2 without any forced compatibility hit me with an error whenever I tried to join a game. It would say that I launched in "Insecure" mode and needed to reboot. I got this error when forcing Proton compatibility, so the Windows version also had this issue, and when trying to play with the Linux run time, it wouldn't launch at all.

I did try looking it up online, and it seems a lot of people are having a similar issue and waiting for Valve to fix it. It seems there is a way around it as well, but it's quite complicated and not something I feel like doing to play the game.

Here's hoping Valve provides a fix soon, so we can get right back to some good ol' Team Fortress 2!
