Now that the steam machine has launched and the CAD files are public, we are going to see a bunch of accessories and community-made faceplates coming out. We’ve already seen a good view, including two from Valve and three from JSAUX, but one person in the community has taken it upon themselves to make a practical faceplate that may not look great, but is extremely useful.

Over on Reddit, user NefariousnessWhole25 designed a faceplate that also acts as a dock and charger for the Steam Controller. It has divots in it for the handles, and the puck sits nicely in the middle to magnetically hold onto the controller to charge it. And because of how strong the magnets are, the faceplate and puck can hold the controller in place.
Granted, it’s not the cleanest design, but it’s extremely functional and super useful. It’s a clean design, with the USB cable tucked out of view, and the faceplate could be used as a stand on its own. It’s probably the most useful faceplate I have personally seen, and I love it.
The design is still being finalized, but the idea is sound and extremely useful. This is something I would love to use for myself, so hopefully, we might be able to make it ourselves or purchase it at some point.
