The Steam Frame Looks Much Smaller Than The Valve Index Than I Expected

It feels like there’s some big news or developments when it comes to the Steam Frame every other day now. Yesterday, it appears that someone was showing off a review unit, but it turns out they had only borrowed it from a friend and hadn’t signed any NDA. And before that day ended, a post on Reddit appeared, showing the Frame next to Valve’s most recent headset: the Valve Index.

Before the Frame, Valve released a VR headset prior to the Valve Index. Unlike the Frame, the Index uses a wired connection that needs to be plugged into a PC. It uses base stations set up around the room to track your position within that space. It needed much more to set up and use, and as we can see in the comparison photo, it’s also much bigger than the upcoming Frame.

It’s actually a little interesting to see. A headset that is standalone and doesn’t need any outside hardware to track its position is actually also smaller in size. It also looks more comfortable, which follows what we have seen people say about the headset.

Now we do have the measurements that we can find on the Steam Frame page, so we could already find out how much smaller it actually is, but it’s really cool to see it compared side-by-side like this. The Steam Frame headset is 175mm x 95mm x 110mm, including the core module and facial interface. I couldn't find the measurements for the Valve Index in my search, but looking at it side by side, and seeing pictures of the headsets on people, it's clear the Frame is significantly smaller.

It's only a matter of time before Valve announces the price and release date for the Steam Frame, and I can't wait.
