Playing older, retro games on the Steam Deck is one of the best ways to use the device, but even through an emulator, none ever feel as good as they do if we were playing native PC ports. We have gone through and covered two of these recently with Ship of Harkinian and 2 Ship 2 Harkinian, which ports over Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask to be easily played and beautifully experienced. Well, the developers of these ports are at it again, and this time, they are bringing Starfox 64 to native PC glory.

Announced on their Discord server and spotted by PC Gamer a couple of days ago, Starship, a native PC port of Starfox 64 was announced. Led by Lywx and Sonic Dreamcaster, this project has been in development for the past couple of months, and now the team feels like it's in a state to announce and start showing it off. With the announcement, a YouTube video of a first look of the new project and how it's running so far:
Due to this being a native PC port, there are a couple of features that PC Gamer outlined it could have that their other ports have, like:
- High resolution support without stretching the UI or otherwise compromising the experience.
- Ultrawide support.
- Elimination of persistent glitches present in emulation.
- High framerate support without introducing speedup glitches.
- Lower system demands.
- Modding potential.
There is currently no timeline for when this will be released, but here is hoping we will see this soon! Starfox 64 is an amazing game, and being able to play this with significant improvements to make it a better game to play on PC, and hopefully on the Steam Deck, will be wonderful.
