New Proton Experimental Update Fixes Command and Conquer Custom Levels

A new Proton Experimental update was released yesterday with more fixes for games. The Command and Conquer series should detect Steam Workshop levels again, Lords of the Fallen should now be playable, and Forza Horizon 4 won't leak memory. We also have fixes for Far Cry 5, Nightingale's Steam authentication, and SYDE Rugby League Simulator.

The new update should automatically download if you already have the experimental layer. If not, just search for Proton Experimental in the Steam store on your Steam Deck and download.

Proton Experimental 8/7/26 Update Changelog:

• Fixed Far Cry 5 showing old drivers warning with AMD GPUs.
• Fixed HDR not working properly in Far Cry 5.
• Fixed Steam authentication failure in Nightingale.
• Fixed garbled and flickering rendering in SYDE Rugby League Simulator.
• Fixed Proton 11 regressions:
  • Lords of The Fallen is playable again.
  • Forza Horizon 4 should no longer leak memory on first start on KDE Wayland.
  • Command & Conquer: Generals, Command & Conquer: Renegade, Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour, Command & Conquer Red Alert 3, Command & Conquer Red Alert 3, Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars should detect custom Steam Workshop levels again.
