The developer of the open source USB adapter HID Remapper has confirmed that he has added support for the Steam Controller with a firmware update. This update allows users of HID Remapper adapters to program the Steam Controller's back buttons, trackpads, gyroscope, and the touch-sensitive grip sensors and thumbsticks.

HID Remapper works by being installed onto a microcontroller such as the Raspberry Pi Pico. It can then intercept and translate inputs from a controller before it reaches the target system, such as your PC. Interestingly, because the microcontroller works independently of any system, having an HID Remapper allows you to use your Steam Controller on systems like the Switch or Android-based devices.

This news probably only applies to a niche group of people, those who own or can create an HID Remapper as well as own a Steam Controller, but it is a great way to expand the capability of your shiny new controller, allowing it to be used on a wider variety of devices, as well as adding more configuration options for accessibility purposes.
