Frostpunk 1886 is the Original Game Re-Imagined in Unreal Engine 5, Coming 2027

Frostpunk fans rejoice! If you weren't quite as into Frostpunk 2 as you were the original game, then you might be interested to hear that the original Frostpunk is being remastered in Unreal Engine 5, and titled Frostpunk 1886. The downside is that it isn't coming for a couple of years yet, with the release planned for 2027.

The studio is keen to point out that this isn't just a visual overhaul, with the game receiving new content, mechanics, laws, and a new Purpose path, so even if you're a Frostpunk veteran, there'll still be new choices and paths to explore.

The developers are also excited to announce that Frostpunk 1886 will have support for community-made mods, something that was previously impossible due to the game engine they used for the original game.

Frostpunk 2 will still receive free content updates and DLC, with Frostpunk 1886 development running concurrently with Frostpunk 2 updates.

Frostpunk 1886 is due to release on Steam in 2027. There's every chance a new generation of Steam Deck will be out by that point, and also likely that our current Steam Decks won't be able to run the game.
