Playing games on the Steam Deck with third-party launchers is a bit of a nuisance, but it's something we, unfortunately, have to deal with. Rockstar, the studio behind Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, is one such developer who employs an external launcher with the games they launch on Steam. However, a recent update to the launcher does include some improvements that should make it better on the Steam Deck.

Red Dead Redemption Rockstar Launcher

Yesterday's update, which I first noticed from GamingOnLinux's article, has a couple of fixes along with it. There were some issues that were smoothened out, like one that had some titles not uninstalling correctly, but it also mentions improvements for how titles are launched on the Steam Deck. This should mean that games being launched from the Rockstar Launcher will be more fluid and most likely less prone to crashing. While I didn't notice any of these issues myself, this is still awesome to see!

The timing is quite peculiar as well. Red Dead Redemption's re-release comes out in 4 days, and it's not completely ridiculous to think that Rockstar may be anticipating the game running on the Steam Deck. If this is true, I would consider it a very good sign for the game and its performance on the Deck. Even if it is an older game, and $50 is a very steep asking price, I am looking forward to the release, especially with the Undead Nightmare expansion! And with the minimum specs, as well as confirmation that it will have FSR 3.0 upscaling included, I am very optimistic.
