An update to AMD's FSR 2.0 was released today! Announced on the AMD community blog, FSR 2.1 is focused on enhancing the upscaling algorithm to reduce ghosting or shimmering when upscaling:
- Adding motion vector divergence to diminish locked pixels, which can alleviate ghosting.
- Improved disocclusion logic to improve upscaling quality in some disocclusion cases.
- Improved upscaled output quality with better color range and temporal stability.
- Reactive Mask updates to alleviate ghosting issues on particles.
- Composition and Transparency Mask updates to alleviate additional ghosting issues.
This will be a huge help to a lot of games that need to utilize FSR 2.0 to run well on the Steam Deck. For comparison, here is Farming Simulator 22 using 2.0 vs 2.1:
As you can see from the image, the obvious ghost trails have been completely eradicated with the new update. Farming Simulator 22 is the first and only game utilizing FSR 2.1, at the time of this writing, and I am sure this will change soon seeing as the benefits greatly impact the visual fidelity of the game itself. This should be a HUGE help for Steam Deck as well.
On top of that, AMD has updated the source code for FSR 2.0 and updated their Unreal Engine plugins to integrate it, which is compatible with UE 4.26, 4.27, and UE 5. You can view more detailed information from their other blog post on GPUOpen.
