Fallout 4 Proton Hotfix Steam Deck

Fallout 4 has had a rough day. The "Next-Gen" patch dropped yesterday, and with it, we lost graphical options that we could change on Steam Deck and broke all mods while offering minimal improvements. It is the patch that made the game "Verified" on the Deck, but it seemed like there were no actual improvements to playability and the removal of the launcher was all we had. But, for those on the Steam Deck OLED, we also had a fun frame pacing issue. But that seems to be clearing up, thanks to Valve!

Pierre-Loup Griffais, an engineer at Valve who works on the Steam Deck, posted on X about a Proton Hotfix that was just released to combat this issue! This doesn't mention whether this is part of the "Proton Hotfix" layer or if the stable Proton layer was updated, but since Proton Hotfix is now the default layer selected for the game, I would assume the fix has been posted to that layer.

This is one issue that has been fixed, which is great, but we still don't have access to changing graphical options. You can use the launch option "SteamDeck=0 %command%" to trick the game into thinking you are on a desktop PC and can access the launcher again, but this is something we shouldn't have to do! Hopefully, Bethesda will find a way to fix this since it would be nice to have options back without needing to use a launch command.

Fallout 4 is available on Steam for $19.99, but you can get the Game of the Year edition right now for $8.79 on Fanatical.

The Fanatical links above use an affiliate link, which gives us a small commission on sales at no extra charge to you. All proceeds go back into SDHQ and its development.
