We haven't heard too much from the indie-hit RPG Enshrouded lately, but Update #3 has just hit, and it has some pretty big news for Steam Deck owners, including FSR3 and new updated default settings!
Before we dive into that though, you can check out the trailer for Update #3 below, and see everything that's new in this update:
The update includes additional difficulty settings, as well as world customization options, there's also been some gameplay and balancing changes, as well as some new crafting recipes and bug fixes that you'd expect.
But most importantly for Steam Deck users, is the addition of FSR3, as well as the promise of new "default" settings for the Steam Deck.
I did a quick test to see how Enshrouded runs now, resetting my settings as instructed in order to use the developer's new default settings, and unfortunately, the performance was terrible! I got around 18-20 FPS in my small base that I had built the last time I played, this didn't seem right at all, so I decided to change the settings and see what performance I could get.
Here are the settings I used, note that Point Light Shadows are the real killer here, I don't know why the developers have enabled them on the Steam Deck by default, but you won't be getting 30 FPS with them on, so make sure that they are off. And just to be clear, we are running a 30 FPS cap and 15W TDP Limit.
So how does performance compare to when we tested Enshrouded back in February 2024? Well, using that build of the game, we ran minimum settings, and FSR2 on Performance mode, upscaling from a terribly low resolution to a still pretty low resolution. And doing that just barely netted us a 30 FPS experience, with some dips below 30 FPS at times.
Now, with the more optimized build of the game, and FSR3 at our disposal, we are still running minimum settings, but FSR3 is on Balanced mode, meaning we are running the game at roughly 470p, and upscaling to 800p. This makes for a much clearer image, and performance is still improved over before, meaning a stable 30 FPS experience is easily possible, at least in the early stages of the game.
So overall, this Enshrouded update is great news for Steam Deck owners, just make sure you don't follow the default settings provided by the developer and you'll be fine!

Enshrouded is available on Steam right now for 20% off, so it could be a good time to dive into the adventure.
