It took some time, but it now seems PS4 emulation is going to be a little more streamlined on the Steam Deck! A while ago, we reported on a GitHub pull request that seemed to add ShadPS4, the PS4 emulator, to EmuDeck, and it looks like it has made its way over to the main branch. EmuDeck was updated today with one change on its changelog: the addition of ShadPS4 to the lineup.

I can't show where to get games to use with ShadPS4, but if you want help setting up EmuDeck, here is our guide on how to do it.

All you have to do to take advantage of this is update EmuDeck. Once done, go to the Manage Emulators tab and scroll down until you see ShadPS4. From there, just install the emulator and update the configuration and you should be all installed and ready to go. This does install the AppImage version of the emulator, so you can find it in your applications list, but you can also access it via ES-DE or SteamRomManager.

I haven't personally tested PS4 emulation on the Steam Deck, and this is still a very early version of the emulator, but it is possible to play some of these on the Steam Deck. Bloodborne was a hot topic for a while last year, and it was being played on PC/Steam Deck through ShadPS4, so I wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing more playable titles being shown off on Deck soon.

I am looking forward to seeing how well the emulator is on Deck and following the project to see what is being improved on over time.
