Wartorn's First Content Update Optimizes Steam Deck Controls

I enjoyed Wartorn a great deal, although its Steam Deck performance at the time I reviewed it was sorely lacking. However, the developers at Stray Kite Studios have been hard at work with updates, including the first major content update that just launched this week.

Amongst new battle scenarios such as Raid and Pitched battles, Content Update 1 comes with some big changes to help improve the user experience, especially on the Steam Deck. This includes a new feature that allows virtual keyboard overrides and support for custom configurations, which is essential to bring controller players like the Steam Deck up to the control of the keyboard and mouse layout.

At launch, the gamepad controls were a bit clunky, but this is a big improvement that makes Wartorn much easier to play on the go. While the controls are much smoother, the inconsistent performance is still an issue on the Steam Deck, but I was able to get slightly better framerates especially in combat. Hopefully we will continue to see more performance gains, and the game is fantastic.

Wartorn is available on Steam for $29.99 and is rated Playable due to showing incorrect controller icons, needing to manually bring up the virtual keyboard, and small in-game text.
